BURGER BUNS

Burger season is almost here. Whether I am serving meat burgers, veggie burgers, or seafood burgers, I want a quality BUN!

Try your hand at making your own burger buns, and I doubt you will ever buy them again!

Ingredients:

-        Yeast – 1 tablespoon

-        Sugar – 1 teaspoon

-        Water – ¼ cup room tepid temperature

-        Milk – 1 ½ cups

-        Egg – 1

-        Rye Flour – ½ cup, (or any other flour for flavor)

-        White Flour – 2 – 2 ½ cups (as needed to form dough)

-        Salt – 1 teaspoon

-        Butter – 3 tablespoons, melted

-        Egg wash – an egg with a little milk or water mixed

-        Sesame seeds – 1 tablespoon, or any topping you like

In a bowl, proof the yeast by placing the first three ingredients in the bowl, give a stir, let dissolve 5 minutes.

Add milk, egg, rye flour, salt, melted butter, and a little flour. Mix. Slowly add remaining flour until the dough can be worked with your hands (as demonstrated in the video above).

Oil a clean bowl. Place dough inside. Cover and let rise for an hour to an hour and a half in a warm, draft-free place.

Once it rises, give one punch to deflate.

Preheat oven to 400.

On a floured surface, roll dough out into a log.

Cut desired sizes for the buns. Lightly flour and shape each bun and place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.

Baste egg wash on top of the buns. Sprinkle toppings. Let set another 30 minutes while oven preheats.

Pop in oven and bake for about 18 minutes, or until firm and golden.

Best buns you will ever enjoy with your burger!
